Going grocery shopping, visiting the doctor’s office and meeting up with friends just got a lot easier as DART recently expanded their transportation assistance program! Addison residents over 65-years-old or with a qualified disability can apply for the DART Rides program, which will take residents anywhere they like – as long as the origin or destination is in the 75001 zip code – with the eligible passenger only paying 25 percent of the cost.
Once you figure out where you want to go, simply call 972-728-6760 to schedule a ride (let them know if you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle). Either schedule in advance or call up to an hour ahead of time, but keep in mind that the vehicle usually arrives within 20-30 minutes of your call.
Although you may travel anywhere (as long as you are beginning or ending your trip in Addison), there is a limit to the length of trip per month that you can take. The maximum value that can be stored on your card is $100 per month, and riders must use alternate means to pay for the cost of their trip if the total cost exceeds the value of the card. Fares are $2.25 for the boarding fee and $1.80 per mile, and an additional $2 for each additional passenger or personal care attendant. Additional passengers and driver tips can’t be paid with program cards.
To be eligible, you must complete this application and return it to DART – DART Rides, P.O. Box 660163, Dallas, TX 75266-7271. Or go online here or call DART’s Certification Office at 214-828-6717. You must also present proof of residency, such as a government ID, utility bill or other documentation verifying residency, and you must not qualify for any other means of transportation such as DART paratransit services. More information can be found here.
The DART Rides program operates from 5 a.m.-11 p.m. seven days a week – the same hours as DART buses, trains and paratransit services. The DART Addison Transit Center is located at 4925 Arapaho Road in Addison.
Everyone deserves to get out of the house! Thanks to DART, exploring the Corridor has never been easier.
