The beautifully wrapped presents, red-and-green decorations and gingerbread cookies are all great, but the most festive thing at your holiday party should be you! You have the perfect dress picked out, the right jewelry set aside and your hair appointment made, so you just have to decide on one thing: what will your nails look like? Our favorite holiday looks – from neutral to Mrs. Claus-worthy – are below.
It isn’t Christmas without a little red and green, so start with a base coat in one of those festive colors. We like Smith & Cult’s Darjeeling Darlin, which is a deep emerald green, and Lovers Creep, a dark maroon – both available at Neiman Marcus. Make your nails stand out even more by finishing the look with a shimmery topcoat of gold. Use a cotton swab to lightly dab on a gold glitter, like China Glaze’s Bring on the Bubbly from Ulta, on just the top half of your nails. The final look is glamorous enough for any holiday party.
3D nails rocked the Fall/Winter 2018 runways and it’s easy to see why: they are so much fun! Start by painting a base coat in your favorite color. Then, grab a rhinestone kit, like China Glaze’s Gleam Team kit from Ulta that contains six different rhinestones in various shapes and colors. While the nail polish is still wet, use tweezers to apply the stones to each nail, using just a few or covering your entire nail. Finish with a top coat and get ready to flash your fingers all night!
For a subtler look (that still contains plenty of glitter), choose a metallic chrome nail polish and paint a tiny half-moon crescent along the right side of each nail. This will make your manicure stand out from ones with painted tips along the top of their nails. We love Nails Inc. Easy Chrome collection from Sephora, where you can choose from a sparkly grey, green, purple or rose gold to create your design.
Snowflakes or Candy Canes
Let your nails reflect your jolly attitude this season by showcasing snowflakes or candy canes! The Essie Gel Couture collection from Beauty Brands has a gorgeous sparkly white in Make the Cut and a festive red in Bubbles Only that would look great in alternating stripes across each nail. Or paint them an elegant shade of violet, like Take Me to Thread, with a white snowflake on the ring finger of each hand. If either of these designs seems too complicated to do yourself, have your nails done at a local salon, like Grand Spa. Right now, they are offering a special Candy Cane and Champagne Spa Manicure for just $38, which is enough to put anyone in the holiday spirit!
