Best Snowy Weather Destinations

Whistler’s world class pedestrian village filled with shops, hotels and restaurants.

With the best shopping, restaurants and light displays, Addison has everything you need for a perfect holiday season – except for one thing: snow! You should probably pack your bags and hop on a plane to experience a true winter wonderland. See below for our list of the best snowy weather destinations to visit this month.

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada

Head north this winter and stay in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, home of one of the largest ski resorts in North America. You’ll be surrounded by piles of light, glistening snow on the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains – 8,100 acres of snowy slopes to be exact. Not into skiing? Sign up for a sleigh ride instead, where you can cuddle up under a blanket as two Percheron horses guide you through the wintery landscape. Later, visit the village at the base of both mountains, where you can grab hot cocoa and go ice-skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza, surrounded by beautiful holiday lights. With plenty of activities to keep you busy, both adventurous and relaxing, Whistler makes for the perfect family getaway this month!

Saariselka, Finland

Watch the snow fall from the comfort of a snug bed when you stay at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Saariselka, Finland, known for their cozy glass igloos that look out over the spectacular views. In the morning, choose from a variety of magical adventures, including a reindeer safari – yes, real reindeer – where you will go through the snowy woods in a sleigh like Santa Claus himself. Or take the trails in a speedy snowmobile, a warm snow tank, or a thrilling horseback ride. Don’t forget your camera – the wintery scenes you see here are unlike anywhere in the world.

Oslo, Norway

Adventures abound in Oslo, Norway, where beginner skiers and daredevils alike will have a blast on the slopes. Bundle up and go cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or snowboarding over the powdery white snow. Or speed through the air on a toboggan at one of the many hilly areas in town. Visit during the holiday season to make your trip even more magical, where you can stop by one of the many daily Christmas markets. For example, the one at Spikersuppa features an outdoor ice-skating rink, Ferris wheel rides, Christmas activities, delicious treats and stalls with locally made goods for purchase – it’ll be a merry time for all!
