Top Exfoliants to Prepare for Winter

Winter and my skin do not get along. The cold air makes my hands literally bleed from being so dry and my face turn red and splotchy – not a good look. In addition to almost constantly re-applying lotion, the best way to combat winter skin is to exfoliate! The American Academy of Dermatology describes exfoliation as “the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin.” Once done on your face, hands and/or body and followed by moisturizer, your skin will be hydrated and fresh once again! Here are some of the top exfoliants available in the Corridor.

Face Exfoliants

A few times a week, switch out your regular facial cleanser for a facial exfoliator. This La Mer Replenishing Oil Exfoliator from Neiman Marcus is one of the best! The sugar crystals and sea salt in the formula work to gently remove dead skin, the sea kelp fibers draw impurities from pores and the Miracle Broth oils leave your skin soft and smooth. It’s an all-in-one product that will make your face look and feel amazing!

We also love the Fresh Sugar Face Polish Exfoliator available at Sephora. Good for all skin types, this facial exfoliator uses brown sugar to seal in moisture and buff away dry skin, wild strawberries with vitamin C to brighten and soothe skin, and plum seed oil and grapeseed oil to hydrate skin. This sweet exfoliator smells good enough to eat and will leave your skin feeling luxurious.

All-Over Exfoliants

If you are prone to eczema or dry skin, use an all-over exfoliator to treat problem areas like your hands, arms, legs or feet. The Tree Hut Firming Sugar Scrub Mocha and Coffee Bean from Ulta works as an exfoliator and a natural firmer to make your skin look healthier and stronger. It contains coffee granules and whole sugar grains to exfoliate, caffeine with antioxidants to fight free radicals and shea nut oil and organic shea butter to provide ultra-moisturization.

For those with sensitive skin, use the Simple Sugars Green Tea Body Scrub from Beauty Brands. It is infused with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory green tea, which is gentle enough even for the most sensitive skin. The body scrub is safe for daily use, leaving your skin soft and refreshed each time.

Traveling Exfoliants

Don’t let your skin regime get messed up when you travel for the holidays! This Tarte FRXXXTION Stick Exfoliating Cleanser from Sephora makes exfoliating easy. Just twist-up this cleansing stick and massage it in circular motions all over your face to cleanse, polish away dead surface cells, purify pores and illuminate skin!

Another travel-friendly option is the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads from Beauty Brands. Just pull out one of these pads to brighten, tone and exfoliate your skin in a breeze. They are made with cucumber and Indian gooseberry to tone the skin, lemon peel and licorice root to brighten the skin and lactic and glycolic acids to exfoliate the skin! Use these daily for optimal results.
