Patriots Soccer Program Celebrate Renovated Fields

Perhaps some of my best memories as a kid growing up involve playing soccer. I can say with confidence that it helped shape the way I approach life. To always work hard, learn from my mistakes, take care of my health, learn to be part of a team, have fun and so many more life lessons. For Luis Santeliz and the H.W. Bush Elementary PTA, these types of lessons were something they wanted to make sure their children would learn. The Patriots Soccer Program at H.W. Bush Elementary was founded by their PTA with the purpose of accomplishing those goals and doing it at an affordable cost. They participate in the Town North YMCA leagues and have received great support from them as well.

Luis started as a parent volunteer last year and saw that there were a couple of things that needed to be taken care of quickly to improve the Patriots soccer program. One was the condition of the fields in which they practice and second was the need for better training for the coaches that would not only help the children on the field but also beyond it.

The program has more than 100 students participating with ages ranging from pre-K to fourth grade, so the need to improve the field condition was urgent. Luis put it this way, “Having a safe place to play is important for the sustainability of our soccer program so that we may continue to impact the youth in our community in a positive way.”

It was a daunting task, but with the help of the team that takes care of Greenhill School’s fields, who came by and walked the field with him, he made notes on what needed to be done. They even suggested a great company who might be able to help. Yellow Rose Landscaping Services partnered with the Patriots Soccer Program as well as the Town of Addison to begin the renovation process of the soccer fields. The Patriots Soccer Program has also won grants from F.C. Dallas, scholarships from the Town North YMCA as well as the Town of Addison.

Phase 1 of the renovation process was completed over the summer and just a few weeks ago, community leaders attended the unveiling of the new soccer fields at George H.W. Bush elementary. While there is still much work to be done, this is a big step toward not just having better fields but also reaching the goal of being a safe place for students and the surrounding community.

The vision of making an impact on young lives through soccer is something that has caught the attention of many people around the community. More importantly, people and businesses from around the community are coming together to help give our students a better future.
