Exfoliate Your Way to Healthy Skin

Remember to exfoliate in these dry winter months.

Keeping your skin healthy is crucial for your health and beauty routine. Cleansing, slathering on sunscreen and moisturizing are all important to your skincare, but exfoliating helps keep your skin as healthy as it can be.

What is Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the removal of the dead skin cells on the surface. It can be performed chemically, by using a scrub that contains special kinds of acids that dissolve and remove the dead skin cells without scrubbing, or mechanically, by using abrasive scrubs on the skin.

Why is it Important?

Cell regeneration slows down as we age, leading to the body being slower at shedding skin cells and generating new ones. After the cells pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave the skin looking dry, dull, and rough. It can also lead to excess oil and clogged pores.

How Often You Should Exfoliate

It is important to note that no matter what your skin type is, it is important to not over-exfoliate. Exfoliating every day can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can cause breakouts. It can also cause inflammation and irritation when can lead to accelerated aging. Exfoliate two to three times a week for combination or normal skin, and once a week for sensitive skin.

How to Exfoliate

An exfoliant that uses both chemical, dissolving dead skin using acids or enzymes, and mechanical, removing dead skin cells through friction, is the best. This allows you to be gentle with the more sensitive areas of your face and scrub the oiler parts of your face. It is also important for the exfoliant to have calming properties to reduce inflammation.

What You Should Use After Exfoliating

Healthcare experts suggest a serum to really soothe the sensitive skin so that it gets an instant vitamin boost. If you need hydration, follow up with a moisturizer to help replace lost oils. Finally apply a toner to your skin. If you have sensitive skin, use P50 one or two times a week and every other day for the normal and combination skin types.

Exfoliation is a must if you want your skin to be healthy and glowing. Take care of your skin and you will be so pleased with the results!
