A sign of a great comedian is someone who can make a wide variety of people laugh through many different mediums – something that Gilbert Gottfried has done for more than forty years! Catch this star comedian in action when he comes to town to perform live at the Addison Improv on September 8-10
“As a famed comics comic, Gottfried puts aside political correctness for his live performance and fires an onslaught of jokes that know no boundaries,” stated Gottfried’s official website.
At 15-years-old, Gottfried began his career doing stand-up comedy in New York. Later, Saturday Night Live hired him as a cast member in 1980, and MTV hired him to do a series of promos for the network, which caused his career to take off! Since then, he has appeared in many films, such as Beverly Hills Cop II; lent his voice to many cartoons and movies, including Jafar’s parrot Iago in Disney’s Aladdin; wrote a book called “Rubber Balls and Liquor”; and has appeared in Comedy Central Roasts, a comedy documentary called The Aristocrats, and the TV show Family Guy among other things. He became famous for his squinting and screeching, and appeared on several late night talk shows.
Recently, Gottfried has been working on a slightly more personal project – a film about himself. This year, a documentary called “Gilbert” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festical. Directed by Neil Berkeley, “Gilbert” looks behind the scenes at Gottfried’s life growing up in Brooklyn and becoming a husband and father. You can catch it streaming on Hulu this fall!
