Donation Ceremony for Folds of Honor in Addison

Folds of Honor Ceremony

Addison Kaboom Town! partnered with Tom Thumb this summer to raise money for Folds of Honor. On Thursday, Aug. 3 they presented Folds of Honor a donation check of nearly $200,000. Folds of Honor is an organization whose mission is to empower military families by providing educational scholarships to children and spouses of military men and women killed or disabled while serving our nation. Donations were taken at over 100 DFW-area Albertsons and Tom Thumb store locations from June 18 until July 8. The ceremony took place at the American Fallen Soldiers Gallery in Addison and included special guest speakers: Addison Mayor Joe Chow, Dennis Bassler, President of Albertsons Tom Thumb, Carol Roberts, Community Relations and Partnership Manager for Albertsons Tom Thumb, Sarah Duncan, Folds of Honor Regional Development Officer and Ben Leslie, SVP National Development for Folds of Honor.
As mentioned before, Folds of Honor is a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. Their educational scholarships support private education tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents. Folds of Honor was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney. Major Dan was an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq. Folds of Honor has awarded more than 12,000 scholarships in all 50 states, as well as Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including more than 2,800 in 2016 alone. As their website states, “Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. Our motto says it best: Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy.”
