It’s springtime in Addison – arguably the most beautiful season of the year. How can you not be happy when you hear birds singing to each other, flowers in every color swaying in the wind and lush green grass everywhere you go? The Town of Addison’s Parks and Recreation department also wants you to enjoy everything beautiful in nature right now, which is why they have created the first ever spring photo contest! The contest will run from now until June 20, and a winner will be announced by July 1.

This photo contest is an excuse for you to spend some time in the great outdoors, taking pictures of anything and everything you think is special, unique, interesting or beautiful. And in Addison, there are plenty of photo-worthy things to choose from! Explore one of the 13 parks, more than 9 miles of recreation trails, and more than 160 acres of irrigated high-level landscaping looking for the perfect photo opportuntiy. There are many flowers this time of year as well. Every winter, Addison plants more than 55,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs throughout the town, which are currently blooming and livening up the Town. You will also find public artwork, donated by the Addison Arbor Foundation, and ducks in some of the ponds. The picture-taking possibilities are endless!

No contest is complete without a few clarifying rules, and this photo contest is no exception. To enter, take a photo (no videos) in one of the parks in the Town of Addison. With your entry, include a brief description of the scene as well as the name of the park. The entry must be the original work of the participant and an accurate reflection of the scene as it appeared, without any alteration whatsoever. You may enter multiple photographs, but are only eligible to win once per year. In addition, this photo contest is available for entry by visitors to Addison parks and Addison residents only – employees of the Town of Addison, city council members and Addison board members are not eligible to participate. All participants must be 13-years-old or older to participate.

Also, all photos you submit must be in digital format, not exceeding 20MB, and must be submitted to Include the contestant name, photographer’s name, phone number, email address and address in the entry. Addison is not responsible for lost, damaged, late or misdirected entries or for faculty uploading connections and technical malfunctions.

The photos shall not violate or infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other rights of any person or entity; contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable and inappropriate content; involve damage to the environment by the photographer; contain malicious code; feature the likeness of any living person without written permission from that person, or his or her parent or guardian if the person is a minor; violate any applicable law, statute, ordinance rule or regulation; trigger any reporting or royalty obligation to any third party; and/or contain any other imagery, situation, circumstance or problem deemed inappropriate by Addison.

By submitting an entry into the photo contest, you agree to grant Addison a non-exclusive, fully paid-up and royalty-free, worldwide license to use, modify, delete from, add to, publicly perform, display, reproduce and translate your entry, including in marketing activities, social media channels and You agree that this consent is perpetual and can’t be revoked. Now for the fun part – winning! Winners of the contest will be awarded a $25 gift certificate from Nate’s Seafood and Steak House, Blue Goose Cantina, Union Park, Blue Mesa Grill or Los Lupes. Also, the finalists photographs and the name of the finalists will be displayed on the Addison website.

If you can’t make it to this photo contest, don’t worry. There are three other opportunities throughout the year to take photos! The Addison Parks and Recreation department will also run a summer photo contest from June 21, 2017 through September 20, 2017, with the winner announced October 1, 2017; a fall photo contest from September 21, 2017 through December 20, 2017, with the winner announced January 1, 2018; and a winter photo contest from December 20, 2017 through March 20, 2018, with the winner announced April 1, 2018. There will also be a grand prizewinner picked from one of the quarterly winners and announced before May 15, who will win an iPad mini.

In a world with cameras on our phone that are better than cameras our parents owned 5 years ago, everyone has a chance at being an excellent photographer! So next time you’re out, take photos of your friends or serene nature shots and post them to Instagram, but also consider submitting them to this article.
