Here in the North Dallas Corridor, we’re lucky to be surrounded by thoughtful, caring medical professionals – professionals whose main focus is on keeping our community healthy and safe. Solis Mammography, located here in Addison, is no different and recently made known their support for HB1036: 3-D Mammography Insurance Coverage for Texas Women. We couldn’t be more proud.
For those unfamiliar, Solis Mammography is the nation’s largest independent provider of breast imaging services, and they firmly believe that an educated patient is in the best position to make optimal healthcare decisions. A recent press release on the topic states that, as a result, “Solis is urging support for Texas House Bill 1036, which if passed, would require all commercial insurance providers in Texas to cover digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3-D mammography, for breast cancer screening and diagnosis.”
It’s no longer speculative as to whether or not 3-D mammograms improve key screening parameters in comparison to 2-D, it’s fact, which is exactly why in the last year, many insurance companies have started to offer coverage of digital breast tomosynthesis. The American Journal of Roentgenology recently published the positive effects of 3-D mammography, reporting increases in early detection of breast cancer by 54% and decreases in recall rates by 37%.
“In 2011, the FDA approved 3-D mammography, and in 2015, Medicare announced its decision to cover 3-D,” explains Solis Mammography’s CEO, James Polfreman, “It’s been another full two years since Medicare’s decision and we are still seeing too many women who have health insurance, but can’t get the best screening technology available because of a lack of coverage. This is simply not acceptable and women deserve better.”
It’s extremely important to take preventative steps, and we couldn’t be more pleased to recognize one of our very own taking a stand and supporting the needs of women everywhere. For more information on Solis Mammography visit their website at http://www.solismammo.com/
