School is back in session, but this time it’s the adults who are lining up to go back. For most of us, that final bell signaling the end of the year for seniors was the last time any of us stepped into a public school. The freedom of not having any more midterms or having to memorizing historical facts is a sweet feeling we will never forget. However, Public School 972 to is coming to town, and you will be surprised at just how much fun getting another education can actually be. Especially when the new education involves some of the best tasting food and most delicious craft beer in town.

Public School 972 is a chef-driven gastropub that serves exclusively craft beer. But you won’t be learning about algebra and grammar at this school; instead, you will become educated in food and alcohol – the kind of education missing in regular schools. These delectable bar serves food made from the freshest quality ingredients, sourced from local farmer’s markets whenever possible.

“Public School 972 is unique both in its environment and culinary offerings,” said a representative of Public School 972. “The venue stays true to its scholastic theme, providing all guests with an education in the art of food and beer.”

Because of their dedication to food, Public School 972 is the place to go for lunch or dinner. Come hungry and order an interesting seasonal menu items include the Moody Burger, Pan-Seared Salmon with Harissa Vinaigrette, and Meatballs and Linguine. Other favorites include Chorizo Mac & Cheese, Edamame Hummus, Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower and more. For dessert, you can’t pass up the Nutella Cookie Sandwich, made with bacon brittle, chocolate chunk cookies and vanilla bean ice cream.

If you enjoy going to school on the weekends, you will be rewarded with a special weekend brunch menu. Choose from the mouth-watering Fire Roasted Vegetable Hash and Eggs, the Stuffed French Toast of the Day, the Smothered Breakfast Burrito or one of the other delicious menu items.

“PS 972 offers traditional food with a twist, like the Flaky Beer Battered Fish and Chips, a flaky cod with remoulade sauce, malt vinegar and sriracha ketchup for dipping; the Eggs Benedict Pizza topped with prosciutto, grana Padano, Public School hollandaise sauce and two fried eggs; and the Fried Jidori Chicken and Waffles with bacon red eye gravy, maple syrup and a fried egg,” said the Public School 972 representative. “Some of the favorites include BBQ Bison Burger, a grass-fed patty with whiskey BBQ sauce and emmental with a pepper bacon mushroom topping; and the Roasted Poblano with Quinoa, featuring black beans, squash, mozzarella, toasted pepitas adobo sauce and lime cream on a bed of cilantro lime rice. Of course, every table should get an appetizer, especially Bacon Cheddar Tots, Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower or the Fiery Calamari dusted with togarashi and ginger aioli for dipping.”

Recess is everyone’s favorite part of school, and at Public School 972, recess means more time for fun. Held Monday through Friday, recess is a time to get happy hour prices on drinks paired with delicious Ahi Tuna Poke, Crispy Naked Wings and PB&J Sliders.

People who love Public School 972’s food will love their alcohol even more. The menu is complimented by a beer list featuring local, regional and national craft beers on tap that are rotated regularly.

Some of their rotating taps include Old Rasputin by North Coast Brewing Co., which is traditionally fermented cider with pineapple juice; Oktoberfest by Paulaner Brauerei Co., which is a Marzen beer with a crisp malt structure; Campfire Stout by Highwater Brewing, which is brewed with chocolate malt, graham crackers and toasted marshmallow flavors; and Velvet Merkins by Firestone Walker Brewing Co., which is bourbon barrel aged oatmeal stout with notes of caramel and vanilla. If your tastebuds aren’t watering yet, you can also order draughts, cocktails, bottles, red and white wine and much more.

The restaurant is open every day for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, and offers Recess happy hour every day from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close with special-priced beer and cocktail selections and menu favorites. Public School 972 is opening soon at 14854 Montfort Avenue in Addison. The grand opening will be held at 11 a.m. on March 13.

Other Public School locations include Los Angeles; Dallas; Denver; Culver City, CA; Las Vegas; Thousand Oaks, CA; and Sherman Oaks, CA, with another location opening in Atlanta.

If you are ready to go back to school, leave your notebook and backpack at home – all you need is a hearty appetite and a hunger to learn something new. Even if you don’t remember the Pythagorean Theorem or how to properly use “affect” or “effect” in a sentence, the outstanding food and drink education you receive from Public School 972 is sure to last a lifetime.
