How to Achieve Eclectic Home Design

An eclectic design can create a space all your own

Eclectic home design is one of the most popular interior decorating trends right now. It’s a way to showcase different interests and facets of your personality, while not sticking to a strict color or pattern scheme. Eclectic doesn’t mean that you just throw many different pieces together and hope it looks good; there is still some thought and consideration behind each piece. However, eclectic design does mean that random pieces are allowed in your home, different colors that go together can be utilized, and you can incorporate many unique pieces into the overall look of your home. We have a few ideas to help you get started.

Different Colors

One easy way to utilize the mixed color trend, is by purchasing complementing pieces of furniture in different colors. For example, the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Sofia Collection armless, two piece sectional couch, which features left and right chaise lounges and a sofa in the middle, looks wonderful in Agean blue. Complete the room with a couple Lucy Full Swivel Chairs, also from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. This modern chairs feature a clear acrylic back and arms, and sits on a base made with a wood finish. Choose to get the cushion and backrest in silver, for a look that is less perfectly-matched and more interestingly-unique.

Different Textures

Textures are fun to play with as well, and an easy way to collect your favorite things all in one room. For example, if you love wood, then you’ll love this Driftwood Round Side Table from Crate & Barrel. It is made with unfinished driftwood with natural knots, grains and splits and a floating glass top rests on top to hold your drink or a lamp. Add a Crest Table Lamp, also from Crate & Barrel, which features a ring of sand-casted aluminum and iron forming a large “O” with a white lamp shade on top. Finish the decor in the room with other different-textured items from Crate & Barrel, such as the Starbust Bowl made with antiqued brass stardust in a curving, geometric pattern; and a white Kora Small Vase made with alternating up and down teardrops texture. As an added bonus, the decorations are all neutral, so they will go with any color scheme!

Different Patterns

Finally, different patterns in similar colors is another fun way to tie a room together. Z Gallerie has lots of bedroom inspirations, and this pink, white and gold room is one of our favorites. Start with a Sahara Pillow in pink, in an artful zebra pattern of pink and white stripes. Then add two Majestic Bedding Euro pillows, which are a vibrant gold colored pillows with ripples of luxe fabric bunched up with rivets. To keep the complementing pattern tradition going, add the Audrey Round Ottoman to the foot of the bed. This beautiful pink fur top is luxuriously soft, and looks great with the gold legs. Finish the room with a Tivoli Rug in ivory, which is a super soft shag rug that is almost as comfortable as your bed! The complementing colors will make all the unique patterns seem natural, but add a sophisticated touch to your room that is never boring.
