As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when thinking about all of the blessings we have in our lives. We should take advantage of this time to give back to the community. There are so many different places to volunteer in the corridor, so you can pick something you are really passionate about to get involved with. Here’s where you can give back in North Dallas.
North Texas’ largest and original no-kill shelter is always looking for volunteers to help take care of their animals. Whether you want to help run the office’s administrative duties or are interested in walking their dogs, you can make a difference with Operation Kindness. You can find their volunteer form on their website.
The Birthday Party Project
The Birthday Party Project believes every child deserves a happy birthday, so they are on a mission to bring this joy to local homeless children. You can help spread the magic by volunteering to decorate these fun parties. The organization has hosted more than 3,000 birthday parties and will have held 315 parties by the end of this year. Make sure to look at the group’s calendar to sign up for upcoming events.
The Friendship House
First Baptist Carrollton is giving back to their local community with The Friendship House. This group provides food, clothing and small housing items to local families who may find themselves in need. You can drop off donations or make a financial contribution by setting up an appointment or filling out information on their website.
Families to Freedom
Victims of domestic violence can feel like they lack options, so that’s where Families to Freedom comes in. This organization provides the essentials for survivors with services ranging from emergency shelter to legal advocacy to transitioning assistance. There are various volunteer opportunities, so you can help the nonprofit with its day-to-day tasks or work with victims. This center moved to Addison in April 2015 and has continued to serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area from its new home.
