Watches have been around for centuries, ever since a Swiss manufacturer made the first wristwatch in the 1800s for a woman. Men started wearing more watches after the military made them popular, and now more and more men are wearing watches as statement pieces.

“In general, watches have become fashion statements and accessories because the ever-present cell phone gives us the time,” said Tim Leamy, Owner of Sebastian’s Closet. “For the most part, ‘large’ is the look of the day. The key to a statement watch is a large, substantial face.”

In addition to large faces, Leamy recommends a thicker leather or metallic strap. “The dominant style we’ve seen is a version of a chronograph watch — bold and detailed. There is a nod to racing-inspired looks as well as military and dive watch styles. Rose gold watches are also back on the scene.”

So, where do you find a watch like this? For high-end, luxury watches, Leamy recommends several watch brands, including: Panerai, Zenith, Vacheron Constantin, Breitling, and Hubolt. However, he says that you do not have to spend that much money for a statement watch; you can find one at every price. Appealing to a younger audience, but still offering great watches, are brands such as Nixon, Diesel, Shinola, and MAX.

Samantha Kurniadi, Marketing Coordinator at Bachendorf’s at the Galleria Dallas, also has some recommendations on statement watches to buy.

For a slick dark blue watch made with titanium, satin finish, and case back in 316L stainless steel, you can buy the Tudor Pelagos watch. This watch has a 42 mm Monobloc middle case, screw-down case back and winding crown, and a helium escape valve at 9 o’clock. The face is scratch-resistant and made with anti-reflective crystal. For sporty watch-wearers, this watch is waterproof up to 500 meters.

If you like a mix of metals in your watch, then Kurniadi recommends the Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch, that comes with a two-tone metal on the face and bracelet, and a dark blue metal face.

Luxury watch-wearers will prefer the Breitling Emergency Watch, according to Kurniadi. This watch has a titanium cobra yellow dial, with USA titanium Professional II bracelet. This is the first watch with a built-in dial frequency Personal Locator Beacon that issues alerts and guides search and rescue missions during emergencies. It is made with a SuperQuartz™ movement that is ten times more accurate than standard quartz, and it also comes in a black titanium “Night Mission” version, which has an anti-glare stealth look designed for the riskiest operations.

No matter how adventurous you are, or what your price level is, you can always find a great statement watch in Addison, guaranteed.
